The Protection and Conservation of Devrai (Sacred Forest) is an initiative sponsored by the Government of Maharashtra, designed exclusively for NGOs operating within the state of Maharashtra. The scheme emphasizes the preservation and conservation of sacred forests—locally known as “Devarai” or “Devarahati”—which have been historically safeguarded by local communities.
Importance of Sacred Forests
These sacred forests hold significant environmental, cultural, and biodiversity value. They serve as vital catchment areas for numerous rivers and water bodies and are considered community preserves. Protecting these forests is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and cultural heritage.
Project Objectives
The project aims to document, conserve, and restore 200 sacred groves (You can change this number) across different regions of a district in Maharashtra. This will be achieved through a participatory, scientific, and culturally sensitive approach, aligning with the guidelines set by the Government of Maharashtra.
Application Process
NGOs from Maharashtra can apply to this scheme. The entire process of filling out a proposal is streamlined, taking only about 20 minutes. All necessary documents are provided in Microsoft Word format, allowing NGOs to easily input their information.
Project Completion and Submission
The project is ready for completion, with all necessary documentation finalized. NGOs can edit their details in the provided word files and submit them directly to participate in the scheme.
