BHEL CSR Project – Eradication of Child Labour | Bharat Heavy Electricals

The project “Inclusive India: A BHEL Initiative for Child Labour Eradication and Education for All” is specially written for BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.) under their CSR activities.

Project Overview
The “Inclusive India: A BHEL Initiative for Child Labour Eradication and Education for All” is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) aimed at combatting child labour and promoting education in targeted areas.

Objectives
The primary objective of the project is to eradicate child labour through a comprehensive approach that includes rescue, rehabilitation, education, and livelihood support, all aimed to empower communities over a 12-month timeframe.

SDG Alignment
This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8.7, which focuses on the eradication of child labour, and also connects to SDG 4, which promotes quality education, and SDG 1, aimed at reducing poverty.

Key Activities
Key activities include conducting baseline surveys, mobilizing communities, forming Village Child Protection Committees (VCPCs), rescuing and rehabilitating children, providing bridge education, enrolling children in schools, as well as offering vocational training and livelihood support to families.

Beneficiaries
The project targets the rescue and rehabilitation of over 500 children, with a particular emphasis on girls, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and minority families. Additionally, around 200 families will benefit from skill development and income-generating initiatives.

Awareness Campaigns
To shift societal norms and discourage child labour, the project will conduct awareness campaigns that include street plays, community meetings, the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, and social media outreach.

Capacity Building
The initiative includes a capacity-building component, which involves training teachers, local authorities, and community leaders to strengthen local child protection systems, ensuring a more robust framework for safeguarding children.

Monitoring & Evaluation
To ensure accountability and measure success, the project includes systematic monitoring and evaluation strategies such as regular data collection, mid-term reviews, and a final impact assessment to track outcomes like school retention rates and reductions in child labour.

Sustainability
The project’s sustainability plan focuses on linking families to existing government welfare schemes and establishing community-led vigilance committees to maintain long-term child protection and support for affected families.

Impact
The anticipated impact of the initiative is to break the cycle of poverty and exploitation, allowing children to access education, enjoy healthier childhoods, and secure better opportunities for the future.
