Project Title – Jal Jeevan Dhara: Community-Based Rejuvenation of Traditional Water Systems for Climate-Resilient Water Security

Jal Jeevan Dhara is a comprehensive community-based water conservation and rejuvenation project designed to restore traditional water systems and deliver sustainable water security in water-stressed areas of India.
Key Project Highlights
• Rejuvenation of Traditional Water Bodies: Uses nature-based solutions to restore ponds, tanks, and local water systems in selected rural and peri-urban villages, reviving ancient water harvesting structures for long-term benefits.
• Sustainable Water Security: Targets water-stressed communities to enhance groundwater recharge and rainwater harvesting capacity, ensuring reliable water availability for drinking, irrigation, and livestock.
• Climate Resilience Focus: Integrates proven measures for drought and flood management, building resilience against climate change impacts through eco-friendly restoration techniques.
• Community-Led Governance: Promotes participatory planning with strong involvement of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and local institutions, ensuring at least 50% women participation.
• Advanced Technology Integration: Employs GIS mapping for precise site selection, IoT sensors for real-time water level and quality monitoring, and digital dashboards for transparent, data-driven project implementation.
• Water Quality & Pollution Control: Introduces scientific water quality monitoring and pollution mitigation practices to improve overall water health.
• Awareness & Behavior Change: Conducts extensive campaigns to promote responsible water usage, conservation behaviors, and best practices among communities and schools.
• Measurable Outcomes: Generates quantifiable water credits, billions of litres in additional water recharge/storage, and documented impact metrics for transparency and scalability.
• Livelihood Enhancement: Strengthens rural livelihoods by improving agricultural productivity and water availability for farming communities.
• Scalability & Long-Term Sustainability: Develops replicable models with strong local ownership, institutional convergence, and community-led operation & maintenance for wider geographic adoption across India.
This HCL CSR water project combines traditional wisdom with modern technology to create climate-resilient villages while fostering environmental sustainability and social empowerment.
