The “Project Swachh Vidyalaya: School WASH Program for Healthy and Dignified Learning” is specially written for IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.) under their CSR activities.
Project Highlights:
The Swachh Vidyalaya initiative is a comprehensive School WASH Program aimed at fostering healthy and dignified learning environments for students.
Focus:
The project concentrates on the significant enhancement of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in 20 government schools that currently lack essential amenities, thereby addressing critical gaps in student welfare.
Components:
Key elements of the project include the construction and renovation of gender-segregated toilets, installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water units, establishment of handwashing stations, and provision of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) facilities tailored for girls.
Behavioural Change:
The initiative emphasizes the importance of hygiene education through organized sessions, training for teachers, and the establishment of School WASH Committees which will be responsible for the long-term maintenance of WASH facilities.
Target Beneficiaries:
The program is designed to directly benefit over 4,000 students, 200 teachers, and 1,200 adolescent girls, ensuring a wide reach within the school communities.
Partners:
This initiative is being executed in partnership with key stakeholders, including the District Education Department, local health authorities, and various community-based organizations to bolster support and resources.
Sustainability:
Sustainability is a core focus, achieved through capacity building efforts, allocation of operation and maintenance funds, fostering community ownership, and the establishment of school-level WASH committees to oversee ongoing efforts.
CSR & SDG Alignment:
The program aligns with the CSR objectives of IOCL, particularly in the WASH sector, and contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
